Detektivbyr�n’s Wermland LP

We are thoroughly excited to announce the forthcoming release of Swedish pop group Detektivbyr�n’s debut full length album this autumn! Wermland will be released in LP vinyl format on Grinding Tapes and on CD on the band’s own Danarkia Records.

Fans of fellow Scandinavian artists M�m and Efterklang, Yann Tiersen’s fantastic Am�lie score, or beautifully-crafted pop music will instantly fall in love with Wermland like we have!

Grinding Tapes Music in Local Indie Film

Milk and Cookie Productions is holding a double movie feature at the Brattle Theatre this weekend. The showing will be on Sunday, July 20 at 11:00am and will feature two short films by the group.

First is an encore screening of last year’s The Quarter Life Crisis, which features musical contributions from both Elijah Wyman and Mr. Sister. Following is the premier of Skin and Bone, a short hospital drama that features instrumental versions of several tracks from Elijah Wyman�s Butterfly Needles album and is even named after one of the tracks on that CD.

The Points North Split with The Woodrow Wilsons

The Points North are heading up to Maine this weekend to record with our friends in The Woodrow Wilsons. They plan to release the resulting recordings on a split cassette tape on Grinding Tapes, so keep your eye out for our first ever cassette release later this year!

Showcase Details!

So finally, here are the long-awaited details for the first Grinding Tapes showcase!

All four Grinding Tapes artists will be performing entirely-unamplified sets on the Rock Grotto at the Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary at 3:30pm on Saturday, June 7th. The sanctuary is located at 87 Perkins Row in Topsfield, MA.

A map is forthcoming, but in the meantime, here are some instructions to help you find Rock Grotto:

Just follow Rockery Trail. From the parking lot, you’ll see that there’s only one path into the sanctuary. Take it into the woods. You’ll encounter Drumlin Trail. Keep going straight. You’ll go over Cow Pen Brook on a wooden path. Once you cross that, you’ll hit another intersection with Waterfowl Pond Trail. Go ahead and cross that as well. At this point, you will reach a fork in the path. Take a left, which leads you across a small and generally-terrifying bridge. After just a few minutes, you’ll come upon Rock Grotto. Climb the formation to the top, and that’s where the show will be! From the parking lot, it’s less than a ten minute walk into the sanctuary.

Relief for Myanmar and Southwestern China

As many of you are no doubt aware, Asia has endured two terrible natural disasters in the past two weeks. A devastating cyclone hit Myanmar, Burma on May 2nd, leaving anywhere from 22,000 to 100,000 people dead. A week and a half later, a magnitude 7.9 earthquake struck southwestern China, killing between 15,000 and 20,000 more people, with an additional 40,000 people believed to be buried or missing.

These death tolls are set to continue to rise unless relief can make its way to injured and displaced people. Please, if you can, visit the ICRC or some other accredited humanitarian organization and make a donation.

If you have made such a donation, drop us a line sometime in May and we’ll send you one of Elijah’s shows for free!

Congratulations to Elijah Wyman for his recent nomination for the WFNX and Boston Phoenix-sponsored Best Music Poll. Honestly, we don’t know entirely what Best Music Poll is, but it appears that he’ll have a shot at winning an opening slot on literate indie rock group, Death Cab for Cutie’s upcoming show at the Bank of America Pavilion. That’d be awesome! The email we received from the Boston Phoenix leads us to believe that winners will be announced in May.

Also, you can read a short article and view some photos from Mr. Sister‘s recent live performance on WERS here. We plan to have some recordings from this session for you in the near future, so come back soon!

We know things have been relatively quiet around here since our two big releases last autumn. That doesn’t mean, however, that the Grinding Tapes artists are taking it easy. Elijah Wyman is presently scheming up a national tour. Check out his artist’s page to see the tour dates and help him book shows. If you can help, please let us know! We are also excited to share with you new tracks from S Joe Hazelwood and Mr. Sister, which were both recorded at the Grinding Tapes studio this winter:

Elijah Wyman has completed his fourth full-length album, Butterfly Needles, and it is now available for pre-order in our friendly store. Although the CDs will not ship until early December, all pre-orders come with an mp3 download of the entire album before the official release date. We hope you love it.
